What insurance do supermarkets need?

Public liability insurance is often a very important cover for supermarkets, as it can protect you if someone is injured or their property is damaged because of your business. Simply Business offers between £1 million and £5 million in cover, to protect you against this cost.

For your shop premises, buildings insurance covers buildings you own against disasters like fire and flood. Remember that you'll need separate cover for contents and fixtures and fittings.

Just as importantly, youneed to protect your stock. Stock insurance covers the cost to you of stock that is damaged, destroyed, or stolen.

The average insurance claim for supermarkets is £18,181 – could you afford this if the worst happened? (Average claim being £18,181. Based on data from 21 November 2018 - 20 November 2019, for comparison only. Cancellation charges may apply, please refer to our full terms & conditions.)

Supermarket insurance policy details

  • Make sure you read your policy documents carefully in order to understand any exclusions
  • If you rent your shop premises from a commercial landlord, check with them to see if you need your own buildings insurance
  • If you employ people, you are legally obliged to take out employers’ liability insurance. Failure to do so could result in heavy fines

It is a very good and easy to use service. I've been a customer for several years and the renewal system is very straight forward. I've always found the quotes competitive too. I'd definitely recommend Simply Business.
