You name it, we insure it
They’re the inspiration behind our recent ‘You name it, we insure it’ campaign showcasing some of the wittiest small business names in Britain.
Along with four other Simply Business customers, Barber Streisand stood out as head and shoulders above the rest.
To celebrate their creative genius, we’ll be sharing the secrets of their success in a series of articles.
Introducing… Barber Streisand
It all began in May 2015 when, after several years of planning, this ‘offbeat unisex barbershop’ opened its doors for business.
Run with your ideas – even if they seem hare-brained
A former accountant in the music industry, Ellie really didn’t expect that one day she’d be running a barbers. But when she came up with the name, Barber Streisand, there was only one thing for it – she had to see the idea through to fruition!

The Loyal Academy of Arts present: Representations of Fidelity I. Loyaltyramid Modern construction built by barber shops that need to populate their social media with something, but are bored (so bored!) of the same tiresome pictures of skin fades filling the feeds of their peers. Built by Barber Streisand using 79 loyalty cards redeemed by their customers in April 2018. Valued at £2,212. #loyalacademyofarts #loyaltycards #pyramid #barberstreisand #exmouthmarket #barbershop #arsenic #green
Be bold and brave
Ellie believes the best thing about running your own business is that your successes (and failures) are all down to you. This is also the biggest challenge – because the buck stops with you, which, in her own words, “can sometimes be pretty hair-raising!”
Location, location, location
Barber Streisand has so many great things going for it as a workplace – it’s in a fantastic Central London location for starters. Yet walking along Exmouth Market feels like stepping into a little community.

Some amateur shots from the brilliant Insideout Comedy gig we held at the shop on Saturday. Thanks to everyone who organised, performed, watched, passed by and laughed out loud. Hope to do another one soon! #barberstreisand #insideoutcomedy #exmouthmarket #barbershop #comedy #thankgodforfilters
Live up to your name
You’d think people would’ve gotten used to seeing the witty signage after three years of it being in place, but no, they still stop for photos. And it’s not just the name they’re after – this is a barbershop with serious interior wow factor.
Surround yourself with the best people
You’ll struggle to find a friendlier team, which means there’s always a great atmosphere in the shop. But ask Ellie and she’ll tell you it’s their customers who’ve really made the business into what it’s become today – she believes they definitely attract the best customers in London.
Take part in ‘You name it, we insure it’
Ellie says: “Of course we’re honoured to take part in the Simply Business campaign, alongside such other superbly named businesses. I think the tone of the whole thing fits really well with the light-hearted and irreverent nature of Barber Streisand. Business doesn’t always have to be dull!”
You can find out more about what’s on offer at Barber Streisand at barberstreisand.com or pop in for a short, sharp cut on Exmouth Market – no need to book, just wait your turn on the bench.
