It all began in May 2015 when, after several years of planning, this ‘offbeat unisex barbershop’ opened its doors for business.

Run with your ideas – even if they seem hare-brained

A former accountant in the music industry, Ellie really didn’t expect that one day she’d be running a barbers. But when she came up with the name, Barber Streisand, there was only one thing for it – she had to see the idea through to fruition!

Be bold and brave

Ellie believes the best thing about running your own business is that your successes (and failures) are all down to you. This is also the biggest challenge – because the buck stops with you, which, in her own words, “can sometimes be pretty hair-raising!”

Location, location, location

Barber Streisand has so many great things going for it as a workplace – it’s in a fantastic Central London location for starters. Yet walking along Exmouth Market feels like stepping into a little community.

Live up to your name

You’d think people would’ve gotten used to seeing the witty signage after three years of it being in place, but no, they still stop for photos. And it’s not just the name they’re after – this is a barbershop with serious interior wow factor.

Surround yourself with the best people

You’ll struggle to find a friendlier team, which means there’s always a great atmosphere in the shop. But ask Ellie and she’ll tell you it’s their customers who’ve really made the business into what it’s become today – she believes they definitely attract the best customers in London.
