- New private investigator businesses up by 25 per cent in the UK
- 48 per cent rise in female detectives
Cheating couples should beware, as figures show the number of new private investigators has increased by 25 per cent in the last year, with female detectives in particular seeing a whopping 48 per cent rise.
The data released by Simply Business, the UK’s largest business insurance provider, suggests that aspiring sleuths are responding to increased demand from people looking to dig the dirt on cheating partners.
Michelle Mone, founder of Ultimo Bras, and Maria Shriver, former wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger, are just two recent examples of wives using private eyes to catch their husbands in the act.
The figures, based on over 250,000 quote requests received by Simply Business, show that private detectives are particular prevalent in Northern Ireland, the East Midlands and South East England. Top towns include Salisbury, Coventry and Dorchester.
Interestingly, it is younger women between the ages of 25 and 34 that form the largest group of new female private investigators in the UK (43 per cent), while male detectives tend to fall within the slightly older 45 to 54 category (33 per cent).
Jason Stockwood, CEO of Simply Business, commented:
“At Simply Business we have a comprehensive view of the small business and start-up market as we quote thousands of new businesses a week. We can see what professions are growing in popularity and we were fascinated to see that there has been a marked increase in people wanting to become private detectives.
“With government figures showing divorces are on the rise, it seems more and more people are trying to get the upper hand through hiring a professional to spy on their partner. Our findings suggest people are taking advantage of this trend to set up as private eyes.”
