Whether nabbing tools in broad daylight or grabbing equipment from a driveway, these are some of the most brazen tool thieves around.
Tool theft has got to be the biggest problem that’s harming hard-working and honest tradespeople up and down the country.
It doesn’t help that there aren’t many things that will deter a tool thief. Locked vehicle? A criminal could break into it in as little as six seconds. And they’re not put off by crowds or the time of day, as some of the videos below show.

Milton Keynes store UK Planet Tools uploaded this video to their YouTube channel in 2018. The tense footage shows thieves casually loading up their Vauxhall Zafira with stolen goods from the back of a tradesman’s van:
We shared this video from Coventry Live back in April. It’s so outrageous that it deserves a place in our top five. Criminals are always opportunists – here they spot an open van and quickly pile equipment into their Ford Fiesta, before the unlucky tradesman gives chase:
This is another video where a tool thief is caught in the act – and isn’t as lucky as the criminals above who managed to drive away in their Ford Fiesta:
Broad daylight doesn’t seem to stop thieves from nicking tools. In this video, a pair of chancers from Nottingham get a good look at tools left on a driveway before helping themselves:
This is another story we shared before, back in October. Not only does the thief in this video get caught, he gets caught by the police – who then proceed to let him drive off.
The incredible moment is caught in CCTV footage available at The Sun.
It’s important to take all the necessary steps to avoid tool theft, making sure you’re parking for prevention, storing your tools sensibly and marking your property in case they do get stolen.
It’s also a good idea to check your insurance policy and consider adding tool insurance, if you don’t have it already. It can help pay for the cost of replacing your tools should they be stolen, helping you get back on your feet quickly.
