1. A not for profit can make a profit and have cash available to use, but it has to put that profit back into the organisation. If you don’t think you run a not for profit, see the trades we can quote for and find one more suited to you.
2. Lots of insurers struggle to cover not for profits that work on a one-to-one basis with vulnerable adults and children.
3. If your organisation works with children or vulnerable adults, you need to carry out Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks on your employees and volunteers and store their records safely (insurers should see that you’re performing due diligence when working with vulnerable people). A DBS check lets you check someone’s criminal record – find out how to do a DBS check at gov.uk.
4. You need to follow health and safety regulations and complete risk assessments, otherwise when you make a claim, it’ll be hard for you to prove that you’re operating safely.
