Bookshop insurance in minutes

From a tiny specialists' favourite to a bustling city branch, every bookshop deserves to have good cover in place. No two businesses are the same and there’s always room for slip-ups, so we think it helps to offer a range of key covers, all wrapped up in one policy, built using our simple online form. Also, we know that you prefer upfront facts (not fiction), when it comes to your cover. So we operate an expert UK-based contact centre, ready to talk you through your options, always in Plain English.

What insurance do bookshops need?

Public liability insurance is often an important cover for businesses, as it can protect you if someone is injured or their property is damaged because of your business. Simply Business offers between £1 million and £5 million in cover, to protect you against this cost.

For your shop premises, buildings insurance covers buildings you own against disasters like fire and flood. Remember that you'll need separate cover for contents and fixtures and fittings.

Just as importantly, you need to protect your stock. Stock insurance covers the cost to you of stock that is damaged, destroyed, or stolen.

Bookshop insurance policy details

  • Make sure you read your policy documents carefully in order to understand any exclusions
  • If you rent your shop premises from a commercial landlord, check with them to see if you need your own buildings insurance
  • If you employ people, even in your own home, you are legally obliged to take out employers’ liability insurance. Failure to do so could result in heavy fines.

It is a very good and easy to use service. I've been a customer for several years and the renewal system is very straight forward. I've always found the quotes competitive too. I'd definitely recommend Simply Business.
