Talking to tradespeople about mental health – watch the video

tradespeople-mental-health-video.jpg

As part of our Better for Business campaign, we’ve partnered with On The Tools to create this short video, asking tradespeople about perceptions of mental health in the trades industry.

The video reveals how difficult it can be to talk about mental health issues while working on site – but also how attitudes on mental health are changing.

The impact of the pandemic on tradespeoples’ mental health

Earlier this year, we asked 200 tradespeople about the effects of the pandemic on their mental health.

Despite being able to continue working during lockdown, 76 per cent told us that their mental health had been affected, with 58 per cent experiencing stress.

Our survey also revealed that a staggering 60 per cent are getting less sleep since the pandemic started. In addition, one in five (17 per cent) described their mental state as ‘bad’ or ‘very bad’, and two in five (38 per cent) said that they felt unable to take time off work for mental health reasons.

Tools for looking after your mental health

As part of our Better for Business campaign, we’ve teamed up with experts to create a series of free wellbeing resources to support small business owners during the pandemic. Our Better for Business wellbeing hub has tips on coping with anxiety, staying connected during the pandemic, and more.

If you’re struggling with your mental health, please reach out to a medical professional for help. You can also get urgent support from mental health charity, Mind by visiting their website or calling their infoline on 0300 123 3393.
