You name it, we insure it
These creative masterpieces were the inspiration behind our latest ‘You name it, we insure it’ campaign, and we believe they deserve to be celebrated.
Five businesses stood out as having some of the punniest names in Britain. To cut a long story short, we chose Spandau Valet to be one of these five campaign superstars.
Introducing… Spandau Valet
Dan Mugglestone started Spandau Valet seven years ago, with an ex-Royal Mail 1998 Vauxhall Combo van that cost him £350. It was a trusted vehicle that got the job done, helping Dan bring in a customer base for the fledgling company, which has always been mobile.
“I started mainly as I wanted to be self-employed and enjoyed cleaning my own cars and being around them, so thought I’d give it a try,” says Dan.
Customers and their cars
Being from Cornwall, a county full of picturesque waterside towns and villages, it’s not surprising that Dan says getting out and about is one of the best things about his job.
“I enjoy finding different places where customers have booked me, as well as meeting them. I like seeing their reactions when I’ve finished the job. It’s amazing how cars mean different things to different people. Some see them as a necessity, while for others it’s completely about pride.”
Competition can be fierce
Dan says that initially competing on price was tough – and still is, to an extent. Certainly there are other companies that offer a similar service for less money. But Dan doesn’t think these businesses have the same staying power as those that focus on quality: “Compare two loaves of bread, one value sliced white, the other stonebaked farmhouse. They both make a sandwich, but…”
Time is another challenge. Dan finds fitting everyone in tough, because it then doesn’t leave much opportunity to develop new products and services, or to keep up with paperwork. Still – it’s great to be in demand!
Being a ‘You name it, we insure it’ superstar
Over the years, Dan’s had people stop and take pictures of his van because of the fun business name printed on the side. It’s happened so much he’s even wondered about selling advertising on his van, too.
Ultimately, Dan sees the huge benefit of having a great name, as word then gets out about your business, although he offers a word of advice: “If you’re prepared to stand out with a great business name, then you’d better be able to back it up when someone books you!”
Spandau Valet cover a large area of Cornwall. They offer a mobile service or you can go to them – so if your vehicle’s in need of a spruce, why not give them a call?
