We are looking for a Head of Commercial Business Development. This position will play a pivotal role in enabling business success by identifying, building, and executing relationships with commercial insurance carriers. The Commercial team is responsible for building a panel of insurance carriers and identifying partnerships that lead to impactful business outcomes for Simply Business, the partner, and our customers.

As a Head of Commercial Business Development, you will:

  • Develop a compelling carrier business development strategy and vision up until the point of execution 
  • Lead and further build a team of Business Development managers while balancing high employee engagement and strong business development performance 
  • In partnership with Insurance Product and relevant stakeholders, identify carrier partners that have the right appetite and products or are willing to build products for our customers and product fit 
  • Develop a strong internal and external network to successfully build, manage and maintain a robust pipeline of carrier partners that are ready to build on our platform
  • Negotiate favorable commercial terms that leads to a mutually beneficial partnership between our carrier partners and Simply Business 
  • Provide new carriers with a clean hand-off onboarding and relationship team to ensure a successful onboarding process
  • Be an expert on carrier and market dynamics while leveraging that expertise to partner with our Management Team and other internal stakeholders to influence our strategy

We are looking for:

  • 10+ years of business development experience with commercial insurance placement in preferably both the admitted and non-admitted market 
  • A deep level of industry expertise and subject matter expertise, preferably as an Agent or Broker with strong experience working with commercial P&C insurance carriers
  • Demonstrated experience of identifying, building effective relationships, and ultimately executing agreements of varying types and complexity, with excellent deal negotiation and commercial structuring skills
  • The ability to coach and lead a remote, diverse workforce with a strong record of developing sales talent
  • A highly confident relationship builder with the natural ability to engage, build relationships and networks, and understand the needs of prospective partners
  • Excellent communication skills and experience delivering compelling pitches, presentations, and proposals at all levels of the business
  • Thought leadership and creativity to accelerate the business development effort and to win others over internally and externally
