Simply Business are seeking a Director of Strategy and Planning in London to join it's leadership team.

A pivotal role for Simply Business, operating across the whole of the UK business. Seen as an expert in setting the long term strategy of the business and exploring opportunities to develop our business. 

The role is a mix of high-level strategic thinking and problem solving and with high levels of influencing and education an executive levels with both internal and external stakeholders. As key member of the wider leadership team, the role holder will regularly attend and lead strategic planning meetings.

The core responsibilities for this role are strategy, planning and execution:

  • Driving and owning strategy
  • Develop long term (3+5yrs) and short term (1y) company strategy to grow the UK business profitably and sustainably, coordinating with the exec team to ensure the central plan and LRP knits together based on the desired future end state
  • Identify the capabilities needed to reach those ambitions and develop the exec’s plans to build/buy/borrow those capabilities
  • Work with the CEO to build the Board strategy & investment cases
  • Looking ahead of marketplace trends, leveraging internal and external resources

  • Planning and execution
  • Drive return on investments which are critical for the strategic plan (i.e. entrance to adjacent products & services), working with functional owners to deliver
  • Identify gaps and influence Exec to a resolution
  • Accelerate UK-wide delivery by embedding an efficient operating rhythm. Ensure the right process and forums are in place to focus the attention on critical areas for success, maintaining pace and accountability

  • External opportunities scouting
  • Keep a clear view of competitors strategic movements and how the competitive landscape is evolving
  • Early sight of potential future winners / winning ideas
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships and potential investments to accelerate SB plans
  • Own strategic investment cases for agreement by boardLead the execution of any subsequent investment with external support where required

  • Be courageous - Big systems thinker comfortable with ambiguity, entrepreneurial and pragmatic scout with a commercial mindset, highly analytical individual pushing people to think beyond their comfort zone
  • Be humble - interest and curiosity for the Insurtech ecosystems and hunger to deliver innovation with a customer-first focus
