We need a Assistant Underwriter to join us in London or Northampton.

Driving profitable growth and reinventing our products by making sure we have unique analytical insight into our customers and how the account performs. With over 250,000 policies managed by the team, you’ll be critical in helping us manage one of the largest SME accounts in the industry.

As a Assistant Underwriter you’ll:

  • be responsible for case underwriting referrals from the technical team within the contact centre on a range of commercial SME products including, but not limited to, trades & construction, property owners, retail, office and professional indemnity
  • focus on the technical elements of the overall portfolio, enabling us to grow at the pace we require, whilst maintaining a profitable book of business
  • coach our technical team in our contact centre 
  • keep up to date with regular market research to understand best practice and development of world-class underwriting
  • help develop our MGA capability and build a strong and credible underwriting relationship with our internal and external capacity partners
  • liaise with our claims, compliance, complaints and contact centre teams where technical underwriting input is needed

Responsibilities include:

  • case underwriting of referrals
  • internal and external audit support
  • working with segment underwriters to provide technical knowledge where required for product changes and new initiatives
  • reviewing book transfers, undertaking new opportunity analysis, design & feedback to segment underwriters
  • wording reviews and document updates (NTPs, summary of covers, wordings)
  • drafting policy wordings and endorsements, considering the Insurance Distribution Directive
  • analysing our large losses, identifying trends and educating the wider team
