Unrealistic expectations fuel conflict between tenants and landlords
Conflict between tenants and landlords is driven by "unrealistic expectations" from both sides, one property expert has claimed.
According to Landlordzone, an online community for property letters, the tenancy deposit scheme was brought in to put an end to disputes.
The arguments arise as what is considered a clean cooker or carpet to one person is often seen as quite unacceptably dirty to another, stated the organisation.
Director of Landlordzone Tom Entwistle, said: "Contrary to popular belief, the number of incidences of tenant deposit disputes is quite small in relation to the total number of UK tenancies. However, when disputes do arise, tenants are sometimes disappointed or annoyed."
He added that those leaving a property should ensure it is presentable and does not contain rubbish or furniture that a landlord may have to pay to have removed.
In its first year of operation the tenancy deposit scheme protected 200,000 tenants' deposits worth £177 million.
