Tips for making a property more valuable
Buy-to-let mortgage holders aiming to make their property more attractive to potential tenants have been given a raft of tips to help get the most out of their investment.
Ahead of the Scottish Homebuilding and Renovating Show, organisers published a list of ten ways in which to improve the value and attractiveness of a home.
One of the chief areas to address, it is suggested, is the kitchen. Replacing doors and spray-painting cupboards are recommended to freshen up this part of the house.
Landlords are also advised to think about re-tiling dingy bathrooms or replacing a coloured set with a cleaner-looking white version.
Installing a downstairs toilet, converting a loft and thinking about the home's exterior are among the remaining points of advice from the show's organisers.
According to a recent survey by the Institution of Chartered Surveyors, many landlords are aiming to keep hold of their rental properties - despite the introduction of changes to capital gains taxation.
