Property consultant provides landlord tips
Property Consultant Knight Frank has issued five "top tips" for landlords and tenants, with advice about letting periods and the importance of boiler safety top of the agenda.
The advice reminds landlords to check boilers have been Corgi registered and to check all electronics in the property.
Knight Frank also suggests that landlords should see their properties as business opportunities rather than getting upset about their tenants' interior decoration comments.
Informing lenders in good time about letting arrangements is also said to be advisable. Additionally, landlord's insurance may provide the cover property owners are looking for.
The importance of specific insurance for landlords was emphasised by James Harrison, chief executive of insurancewide.com, when speaking to the Times earlier this month.
"The reality is that a standard home insurance policy will exclude cover for any property from which revenue is earned," he explained.
"Even for renting out one room you must have a specific landlords insurance policy."
