Landlords offered green tax breaks
Landlords across the UK will be able to claim tax breaks of up to £1,500 per property if they make their homes more eco-friendly, it has been announced.
The money will be available for landlords to claim against the cost of installing draught proofing, loft insulation, floor insulation and new efficient hot water systems, according to the National Landlords Association (NLA).
From October 1st, all homes on the rental market will have to have an energy performance certificate, alongside those homes up for sale.
David Salusbury, NLA chairman, said: "As well as contributing to the overall efforts by society to combat climate change, landlords may see an increase in the value of their investment as a result of energy efficiency improvements."
The move is part of a wider government plan to make all homes in England zero-carbon developments by 2020.
