White van drivers vulnerable to theft, says survey

1362232%20van%20driver%20small.jpg The archetypal white van man may be a target for vehicle theft, according to the survey findings of a van insurance firm.

The study revealed that despite their image with the general public, van men are not averse to technological advances, and 53 per cent revealed that they owned an item which they could not manage without, including stereos, satellite navigation systems and hands-free kits.

This apparent reliance on expensive gadgets highlights the importance of taking out van insurance, as drivers could find themselves experiencing difficulties if their equipment were to be stolen from their vehicle.

The survey also suggests that white van men are receiving unfair criticism. According to the research from Budget Van Insurance, the majority of van drivers are image-conscious men who like nothing better than to relax with their families at the weekend.

Far from the widely-held opinion that van men make little effort over their appearance, the survey suggests that 73 per cent are concerned about the way they look on the job, while 60 per cent are so concerned about their diet that they prepare their own lunches rather than relying on snacks in roadside cafes.

Lisa Corston of Budget Van Insurance commented: "It's time for us to ditch the more negative side of the van man's reputation once and for all.

"Our research puts forward an alternative to the road menace and shows that there's more to van man than meets the eye."
