FSB to aid flooded businesses

Half-million pound worth of assistance to businesses which have been affected by the floods that hit the country this week and last.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) will make some £500,000 available to businesses in the form of interest-free loans worth around £5,000 or less to any of its members suffering severe trade hardship as a result of the flood crisis.

"The FSB, as the UK's largest business organisation, is determined to help our members get back on their feet as soon as possible following this disruption," FSB national chairman John Wright, said.

A similar assistance fund had been put into place by the organisation in 2001 to cope with the Foot and Mouth Disease crisis.

Any of 205,000 FSB members, especially those who cannot benefit from any other form of financial support, such as via business contents insurance providers, can contact their regional office for information about assistance provided by the organisation.

"But we still need government bodies such as the Environment Agency to focus as much on assisting businesses to get back on their feet as they do on helping people get back to a normal life in their homes," Mr Broomhead added.

Small businesses in Hull have been particularly hit by the floods.
