Skilled workers lured Down Under by new policy
Australia has loosened it’s immigration policy in order to attract more skilled workers to move there from Britain.
Australia runs a points-based system for deciding who gets a visa, and from 1st September, new immigration rules will offer an additional five points towards a visa for those who pass a standard English test.
By relaxing the policy, the Australian government hopes to make it easier for much needed skilled workers, such as doctors, nurses, teachers, accountants, plumbers, dentists and IT managers, to live and work there.
Two-thirds of migrants who were granted Australian visas last year were skilled workers, and the country has now raised its target for skilled immigrants from 5,500 to 102,500.
