Police in Kent are to pool more resources into tackling the problem of theft from building sites.

Loss of equipment can have financial ramifications which can be worsened by not having a builder insurance policy. In Kent, the number of instances of theft has been on the rise, prompting police in the county to take action.

Officers will be performing spotchecks at sites on lorries travelling towards the Channel tunnel and will visit building sites to increase awareness of onsite security, Contract Journal reports.

"People find it harder to get builders and other tradesmen to do work for them because insurance companies demand high premiums or won't insure businesses because of the increasing number of claims they make," said Inspector Roscoe Walford.

Earlier this month, a builder in Redbourne complained to This is Hertfordshire that police do not do enough to prevent equipment thefts.
