Plumbers advised to be more aware of smoking laws
The Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors has advised plumbers to take a common sense approach to the new smoking laws when dealing with customers.
Members have been warned about the potential health problems that can come about from passive smoking, and advised that they should ask clients to refrain from smoking for a period prior to work commencing.
But the Association has also suggested that making such a request could result in some business being lost.
Clive Dickin, chief executive office at APHC, said: “Unfortunately for the contractor’s employer, workers are advised to ask their customer not to smoke prior to them arriving. This means employers could now have to choose between either losing valuable business or facing possible litigation by the employee for not protecting them from a medically-proven health risk.”
