In 2007, across Scotland a total of five individuals lost their lives as a consequence of slips, trips and falls within their place of work.
Moreover, according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), workplace slips, trips and falls led to the injury of 4,081 individuals in Scotland last year - with the combined impact of accidents and deaths costing the country more than £67 million.
"Each year slips, trips and falls cost the British society nearly £811 million," said Stewart Campbell, director of the HSE in Scotland.
"But what these figures don't reflect is the extent to which these injuries affect individual workers and their families."
The HSE announced its findings as part of the launch of its Shattered Lives campaign, which focuses upon falls from height, as well as slips, trips and falls.
In addition to the construction sector, the Shattered Lives campaign focuses on other industries, including plant and building maintenance and the food retail sector.
