Britain's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will this week launch its Shattered Lives campaign in Greenwich.

With the launch taking place at the Greenwich National Maritime Museum, the HSE is launching its campaign in an attempt to raise awareness over the impact of workplace slips, trips and falls.

Workplace slips and trips can be caused by a number of different factors, including footwear and other people.

"Each year slips, trips and falls cost the British society nearly £811 million," said Stephen Williams, London director for the HSE.

"But what these figures don't reflect is the extent to which these injuries affect individual workers and their families."

According to the HSE, every 25 minutes, one individual in the workplace either sustains a fracture or breaks a bone.

Moreover, over the course of 2007, HSE data shows that almost 11,000 individuals encountered a significant injury, as a consequence of a slip, trip or fall.
