Britain's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning over the dangers of working from height, which may affect tradesmen such as builders and electricians.

Issued following an incident in February 2007, the HSE has issued a warning in relation to the dangers of working at height in instances where the work has not been properly planned in advance.

"This incident could have had even more serious consequences and could have been easily prevented," said Helen Jones, an inspector for the HSE, an organisation established as a consequence of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.

"A proper assessment of the risks should have been carried out before the work started to identify the simple precautions needed to ensure safe means of accessing and descending, and working on the roof."

As a consequence of the incident, the organisation involved was fined a total of £1,500, excluding costs of £5,382.
