Britain's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning on the dangers of conducting roof-related work that is unsafe.
Following an incident in November 2007 which resulted in the injury of a member of staff, the HSE has issued a warning that all employers should ensure that building maintenance work is undertaken after ensuring the presence of safe procedures.
During the incident, the affected worker fell a total of four metres.
"This case highlights the serious consequences that can occur when health and safety law is not adhered to, and demonstrates how working at height can be extremely dangerous if the correct procedures are not followed," said Steve Banfield, principal inspector for the HSE, an organisation established in 1974.
As a consequence of the accident, the firm involved was found to have been in breach of Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
