A number of individuals in the east of the country have sustained major injuries in the workplace as a consequence of slips, trips and falls, it has been claimed.
Data released by the UK's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has revealed that, over the course of last year, in the east there were a total of 1,211 serious injuries caused by slips, trips or falls.
Dubbed Shattered Lives, the HSEs campaign in relation to slips, trips and falls is targeting a number of industry sectors, including catering and construction.
"Each year slips, trips and falls cost our region over £66 million pounds. But what these figures don't reflect is the extent to which these injuries affect individual workers and their families," said Geoff Baker, head of HSE operations in the east.
Mr Baker also noted that such accidents can have negative consequences for businesses, as a consequence of the costs associated with factors such as productivity slumps and employee absence.
The Shattered Lives campaign also focuses on falls from height.
