HSE issues warning after death of welder

Britain's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning following the death of a welder during an incident in March 2007.
Announced in relation to crane safety, the HSE has issued a call for an awareness of the inherent danger associated with the use of cranes when employees are present underneath.
The employee died after an impact involving a load that had fallen from the crane.
Iain Evans, an inspector with the HSE, said: "There is a very clear responsibility on employers and managers to safeguard their workers."
"There is plenty of advice and guidance within industry and from HSE on how to comply with the law."
As a consequence of the incident, a Liverpool-based firm was found to have breached Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and fined a total of £100,000.
The HSE was established as a consequence of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
