HSE issues new safety warning

The UK's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued new calls over worker safety following a serious incident involving a migrant worker.
As a result of the incident, which resulted in a Romanian employee losing his leg, the HSE is calling on firms to ensure staff members are fully aware of safety measures, irrespective of their level of knowledge for the English language.
"With the increase of foreign workers in Britain, it is essential that companies who need their skills take care to ensure workers fully understand … how to avoid risks in the workplace," said Zameer Bhunnoo, investigating inspector
"Workplace transport continues to be one of the main causes of fatal and major injuries," he added.
As a result of the accident, the affected firm pleaded guilty to breaches of Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
Romania became a member of the European Union on January 1st 2007.
All employers must by law have Employer's Liability insurance.
