Britain's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced details of a forthcoming electrical safety seminar in Bury St Edmunds.
Taking place on March 13th, the seminar is being held in an effort to illustrate the potential dangers of electrical equipment, which may be faced by tradesmen such as electricians or plumbers.
According to data provided by the HSE, every year workplaces in the UK report approximately 1,000 accidents involving electricity. "Such practical demonstrations seem to have more impact and stick in the minds of those attending," said Eddie Scoggins, principal inspector of health and safety at the HSE. "The seminar will show delegates dangers posed by such electrical equipment as overhead power lines, which can cause serious injury and in some instances prove fatal."
Structured to include the use of fake overhead power-lines, the event has been organised by the Food Industry Safety and Health Network, an organisation that regularly works with the HSE.
