The driver of a forklift truck in Herefordshire has been prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), it has been revealed.
It has been confirmed by the organisation that the driver was prosecuted following an incident in January 2007, which resulted in the infliction of a number of injuries upon one of the worker's colleagues.
After a guilty plea, the driver was fined a total of £1,750.
"It is important that individuals are aware that they, as well as their employer, have duties under the law to take reasonable care of the health and safety of others," said Anne Robinson, an investigating inspector with the HSE, an organisation whose activities include the promotion of training and the sponsoring of research.
"The injuries inflicted could have been significantly worse, or even fatal."
As a consequence of the incident, the driver was found to be in breach of Section 7 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
