Two firms have been prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for violations of legislation governing health and safety.
Following the injury of two employees, both firms were found to have breached health and safety regulations, although one was found only to have breached Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
However, a second firm had been found in breach of Regulation 4(1) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
"This incident has had devastating effects on those concerned. Construction employers should take all reasonably practicable steps to protect their workers," said Norman Macritchie, an inspector with the HSE, an organisation established as a consequence of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
"Falling from height is the single greatest cause of fatality in the construction industry in the UK."
