Builder dumps asbestos without permits

A north-west builder is facing action after illegally disposing of asbestos.

According to reports by the Liverpool Echo, a court hearing has heard how the builder dumped asbestos in a Merseyside village, in spite of not being in possession of the correct waste management licenses.

Whether or not the individual was in possession of builders insurance, at the time of the incident, is not mentioned in the report. "This was treated with the utmost seriousness. At the time the vehicle was found the door was open and it had been there for quite some time," said Gregory Eyitene, acting for the prosecution. "The analysis of these materials has also incurred huge costs," he added.

During the hearing, it was revealed how the builder carried the asbestos in his vehicle, leaving the doors open in a manner that caused the asbestos to pose a threat to nearby persons.

Asbestos has established links with a number of conditions, but is increasingly thought to play a part in the development of other disorders, such as colorectal cancer and laryngeal cancer.
