Bogus tradesmen cash in on Folkestone earthquake
Homeowners whose properties were affected by the earthquake in Folkestone in April are being urged to make sure traders have the necessary permits to perform repair work.
There are concerns that bogus tradesmen may be attempting to make money, with property owners desperate to secure the services of builders and scaffolders.
Some of these tradesmen may not have the necessary permits from Kent Highway Services, which ensure that equipment is put up safely.
In addition, some many not have the required builders or scaffolders insurance, which should include public liability cover.
Councillor Keith Ferrin told KentNews.co.uk: "There is a lot of work going on in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. We want to ensure that this is carried out safely and are asking residents to help us."
Tradesmen are urged to ensure they have the necessary documentation and to take out public liability insurance to protect them in the event that a member of the public is injured or their property is damaged.
