A British apprentice has been awarded a bronze medal at the recent Skills Olympics in Japan.
Simon Noble, an apprentice from Billingham, won the award as part of a team of 22; each had to participate in a number of different events, ranging from graphic design, plumbing and sheetmetal work.
At home, Mr Noble is an apprentice specialising in autobody repair, reports the Evening Gazette.
"I am absolutely over the moon with the result. I've been training practically all year for this and I really wanted to do well, not just for me but for the whole team, for my industry and my country," said Mr Noble from Japan.
Collectively, the UK representation was able to achieve one gold medal, in addition to one silver, two bronze medals and a further nine medallions of excellence.
Dubbed WorldSkills 2007, the event was viewed by in excess of 200,000 individuals and took place in Numazu City, which can be found in the country's Shizuoka Prefecture.
