Survey shows increase in online sales

Online sales increased significantly over the Christmas period, it has emerged.
Data released by Capgemini shows that over a period between October 1st and December 31st 2007, online sales rose by more than half.
Operating in areas such as North America and Asia Pacific, Capgemini is a consultancy firm specialising in business and IT services.
"There can be no doubt [that] online is growing its share at the expense of bricks and mortar retailers and we believe this trend will continue," said Anthoula Madden, vice president of the company's consumer products and retail division.
Over the analysed period, in monetary terms online sales increased to £15.2 billion, compared with the £9.61 billion achieved over the same period the previous year.
Capgemini's survey also found that the star performers over the Christmas period were those with a presence both online and in the High Street.
