Retail firm HMV has reported strong sales over the Christmas period.
Describing its performance over the festive period as "highly successful", the firm has reported like-for-like sales growth of 9.4 per cent, when taking into account the performance of the entire group.
"We've produced one of our best-ever performances this Christmas. There is no doubt HMV is one of the winners this time round," said Simon Fox, chief executive at HMV.
"Investment firm Panmure Gordon, added: "This is probably the best Christmas trading statement we'll see this year."
The group's near ten per cent sales growth does not take into account the impact of new stores and covers a five-week period of time, up to January 5th 2008.
Over the same period, sales at the group's Waterstone's book shops increased by a total of four per cent.
The group's signature image of a dog with a gramophone comes from a painting by Francis Barraud, an artist of English origin.
