Small retailers should opt for public liability insurance
Small retail businesses in the UK should carry public liability insurance, it has been claimed.
According to Shane Brennan, a representative from the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS), although the issue of claims against small retail businesses is not a high-profile one, any claims can lead to significant costs.
Public liability insurance provides cover against a number of expenses, including legal fees and the cost of medical treatment, according to Business Link.
"Small retailers are working to incredibly tight - and increasingly tight - operating margins,"said Mr Brennan.
"Any significant increase in costs seriously undermines their ability to carry on; whether personal injury claims or anything else," he added.
Established in 1995, the ACS is a UK-based trade association for Britain's convenience store retail sector.
