NGH advises on employer liability insurance for homeworkers

News by Adfero for Simply Business - independent providers of public liability insurance, business finance, landlord insurance, buy-to-let mortgages & commercial mortgages.

If all information is given to the provider, home-based workers should be covered by employer liability insurance, the National Group on Home working (NGH) has suggested.

Most businesses are required to insure against liability for work-related disease or injury caused to their employees under the Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act (1969).

The emerging trend for more people to perform their roles within their home may have made this a more confusing issue for some employers, but the NGH has claimed that such workers should not be deemed as any different from office-based staff when it comes to employer liability.

"So long as the insurer's totally aware of all the different circumstances of their employees, they should be able to incorporate that within the policy," explained group director Linda Devereux.
