Climate change bill offers opportunities for improvement
The climate change bill offers a "unique opportunity" to tackle the negative consequences associated with climate change, according to Jane Milne - Head of Property at the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
Ms Milne said the bill could "ensure sustained, government-wide action to tackle the increased incidence of flooding, storm damage, subsidence and heat waves that climate change will bring".
The Head of Property's comments follow the publication of a report by the parliamentary joint committee on the climate change bill, which recommended the creation of regular reports to parliament on the risks associated with climate change, as well as how local authorities intend to deal with these threats.
The ABI sid that the recent flooding is a reminder that severe weather conditions can have a "devastating impact" on people's livelihoods, even in the UK where natural disasters are relatively uncommon.
Business owners should take the opportunity to review their insurance if they are located in an area considered a flood risk.
