British entrepreneurs lagging behind US

Total entrepreneurial activity within the UK over the course of 2005 was 6.2 per cent behind the US' 12.4 per cent, according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2005.

Experts are blaming this on the way we see entrepreneurs in the UK. Tanya Hine of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs (BAWE), suggests that entrepreneurship within the UK should be encouraged and people shown that it is, in fact, not a "dirty word".

"In a way we can blame ourselves. The entrepreneurs are always chasing the knighthood - in other words they want to basically put themselves from one class to the other," said Ms Hine.

"We have to understand that that label is completely and utterly unimportant ….What you have achieved is important," she added.
