50% of flood claims still unresolved

50% of the claims lodged with insurance companies from the 2007 floods have still not been processed, according to ClaimsDesk.
The company, which is in the process of updating their own claims handling processes, is strongly advising other insurers to do the same in order to cope with increased pressure on the industry from the effects of natural disasters.
Colville Wood, Solutions Director at ClaimsDesk, believes that many insurers may be holding back from improving their claims fulfilment processes because they fear that it will be expensive, long winded and will involve extensive restructuring of their current systems. However with the incidence of natural disasters increasing there needs to be some quick changes made across the board.
The company said: "Insurers are increasingly under pressure to deliver more cost effective claims handling and resolution whilst simultaneously raising the levels of customer service and recent reports suggest that the average property insurance claim now reaches £75,000."
