A new survey has unveiled the extent to which those under the age of 20 have felt self-conscious about their age in relation to the workplace.
Data released by the Employers Forum on Age (EFA) has found that out of every five individuals under the age of 20, one has opted to not apply for a particular job on the grounds of their age.
The study's findings have been based upon the responses of 981 individuals, reports Personnel Today.
"Employers must recruit and engage young people and our research shows that this group, more than any other group, is feeling alienated from the workplace," said Rachel Krys, director of the EFA, an organisation established in 1996.
"[Those recruiting staff] have to evolve to understand, motivate and develop the skills of this group - they can't afford to ignore any age group."
Conversely, of those respondents who were 40-years of age, seven per cent had been dissuaded from submitting a job application on the basis of age.
