The results of a new survey have uncovered the costs of bullying in Britain's workplaces.
According to the results of a study by the Andrea Adams Trust, a charity specialising in bullying in the workplace, one in every four individuals has experienced bullying while at their place of work.
Bullying within the workplace can take a number of different forms, including damage to property, verbal abuse and social isolation. Matt Witheridge, operations manager at the Andrea Adams Trust, said: "Bullying really does happen in almost every employment scenario." "Industries that are affected most are those with a very hierarchical management structure, high-pressure jobs where staff can be seen as fairly expendable," he added.
Mr Witheridge also noted that bullying can occur in small family-owned organisations, where there may not exist a company strategy in relation to bullying and where trade unions are unaware of what is happening.
Today (November 7th) is Britain's National Ban Bullying at Work Day.
