A recent study commissioned by the Financial Times has highlighted failings by the current candidates for London's mayoral elections.
According to the results of the study, conducted by London First, the current candidates are not addressing some of the issues that London's business community considers to be of paramount concern. Some of the business concerns highlighted cover issues such as the expansion of Heathrow airport, issues surrounding affordable housing and growing congestion levels.
"London has been a victim of its own success: its rapid growth has left us with choked-up streets, unreliable and overcrowded trains and third world airports," said Baroness Jo Valentine, chief executive of London First. "We're not looking for grand promises from the mayoral candidates, just a sense that they will deliver."
London First's findings are based upon an examination of manifestos provided by each of the candidates. The election for the position of London's mayor will take place on May 1st 2008.
