Stress management important for SMEs
Employee stress management can be more important in a small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) than in a larger firm, it has been suggested.
According to comments made by Neil Shah, director of the Stress Management Society (SMS), stress management is more important for an SME because of the potential impact of that stress on the business.
Mr Shah goes as far as recommending that a small business should engage regularly in communication and staff appraisals to ensure that any difficulties are dealt with quickly.
"Ultimately if you don't manage stress, it can affect productivity and it can affect the efficiency of your organisation. It is [also] quite important to have regular communications," he said.
In related news, a data released by the Health and Safety Executive for the period covering 2005 and 2006 shows that over this period 420,000 Britons believed themselves to be suffering from illness-inducing stress as a result of their job.
A number of techniques exist for managing stress, including exercise and meditation.
