Small firms who want to set up their own website have a variety of choices, according to an industry commentator.
Dr Adam Le Gresley, head of operations at Technology Means Business - the industry standard accreditation for those providing small firms with ICT services and advice - suggested the cost of setting up a website is directly linked to the goals of the owners.
"It very much depends on what you wish to accomplish," he said.
According to Dr Le Gresley, a basic website can be set up using cheap web wizards online. This could cost small business owners as little as £4 a month.
However, some firms choose to bring in professionals, he added.
Dr Le Gresley said: "If you require something more complicated, like customer data-basing and require a bespoke design template, then you may bring in a web design and programme team."
This option could hit business finance with expenses of several thousands of pounds, he added.
According to statistics by ComScore, the UK population is the most active online in the whole of Europe, E-consultancy reports.
Average users go online 21 days a month, it found.
