SMEs should conduct pre-marketing research

News from Simply Business - providers of business insurance, invoice finance, landlords insurance and buy-to-let mortgages

Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) should ensure marketing campaigns are preceded by research, an expert has claimed.

According to comments made by a representative from the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), prior to implementing any form of marketing campaign, it is important for SMEs to conduct research to determine the market they need to address.

"If you are promoting yourself to the wider public, you need to get your marketing campaign going and create a buzz about your product; about what you are and what you do," said the representative.

"It all comes down to the audience you want. Once you've researched your audience, you can go from there," he added.

In related news, a recent report by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform found that at the beginning of last year, SMEs account for 47.1 per cent of the UK's total business employment.

The BCC operates on a not-for-profit basis.
