SMEs must become employer of choice

Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) should compete with larger companies to become an employer of choice, it has been claimed.

According to comments made by Stephen Alambritis, head of public affairs at the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), SMEs can become an employer of choice by replicating some of the things offered by larger organisation.

"There's stiff competition with large businesses in the UK. We want them to compete fairly and squarely with those large businesses and the entrepreneur needs to be at ease," said Mr Alambritis.

"To be the employer of choice, to be the business of choice, we need to compete with the bigger companies," he added.

The FSB offers members a number of services, including FSB Care, a new package of support for owners of SMEs suffering from illness.
