SMEs hit by internet crime
Britain's small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are being targeted by cyber-criminals, it has been reported.
According to the results of a study by the government group Get Safe Online, 40 per cent of Britain's SMEs have confirmed that they have been targeted over the internet, reports Secure Computing Magazine.
"As cyber-crime becomes more sophisticated, basic measures aren't enough on their own," said Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online.
"Businesses also must look at access control, data encryption and secure password practices, as well as looking at other measures such as staff training," he added.
Additionally, the group also found that 36 per cent of SMEs - who have been targeted - have fallen victim to a computer virus attack.
Get Safe Online was established in 2005.
