SMEs are being left out of the fuel poverty package
Small-to-medium business enterprises (SMEs) are being neglected by the government's fuel poverty package, one advisory body has claimed.
According to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), smaller firms are not seen as important enough to be included in the government's package of fuel recommendations.
Marc Shoffman from the FSB stated SMEs should be treated in the same way as domestic fuel users.
A survey of 8,000 members showed "around 80 per cent said that a rise in fuel and energy costs would make it difficult for them to expand in the next year and take on more staff", he stated.
Up to 40 per cent of respondents said they would probably end up having to let staff go during the next 12 months, added Mr Shoffman.
The BBC reported new proposals from the government are expected to help ten million households in the UK reduce their energy bills.
