The UK's small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are spending increasingly large amounts on information technology (IT), it has been claimed.
Data released by market intelligence and strategy firm Access Markets International Partners has found that over the course of 2007, SMEs increased IT spending levels by a total of eight per cent, reports ZDNet.co.uk.
"The amount of spending continues to go up every year as new opportunities emerge in IT," said Peter Scargill, chairman of IT for the Federation of Small Businesses, an organisation with a history going back to 1974.
"Now it is pretty much inescapable for most companies to have some sort of IT equipment, whether it is kitting out a small office or ensuring there is an email audit trail."
IT-related expenses for SMEs can include a number of different requirements, including software and network assistance, in addition to support for computer hardware.
